NOISE COMPLAINTS
Sunset Blvd.
The light goes golden around 5pm and everything gets a little more forgivable. This is the drive west, windows down, no particular reason to rush. Sun-bleached and slightly restless. The kind of afternoon that makes you feel like your life could be a movie if you just kept driving.
Abbot Kinney
Sunday afternoon and nobody's in a rush. You're wearing something you didn't overthink and it's working. The kind of street where the light always seems to be hitting right and everyone looks like they just got back from somewhere good. Iced coffee. A bookstore you'll spend too long in. A story with no end.
Beachwood Canyon
She had a Spanish balcony and olives for breakfast and you never stood a chance. This is the playlist for the winding drive up into the hills past the bougainvillea, past the canyon houses with their old bones and good light. Replaying every conversation you should have ended differently. You still don't know if she loved you or just let you think she did.
Mulholland Drive
It's late. You're not going anywhere in particular, just up into the hills where the city turns into lights below you and you can finally breathe. The kind of drive where you say things out loud that you'd never say to anyone's face. Hairpin turns and cold air and something unresolved sitting in the passenger seat. You already know how this ends. You take the long way anyway.
Pacific Coast Highway
You didn't plan to end up here. But the ocean is right there and the road keeps going and at some point you stopped caring about the destination. Windows down. Volume up. This is the drive you take when something ended and you're not sure yet if you're falling apart or just starting to feel better. The water doesn't care either way.
Echo Park
Dim lights and a living room full of people you don't know and then suddenly there's her. You're too old to feel this way and too young to know better, which is exactly the problem. You're not sure if you're the most interesting person in the room or completely out of your depth and you've stopped caring which. She doesn't text back right away. You kind of respect it. The rest is history.
